As for what happens it depends on where you are. That map is not specific. You get hicks and city folks, culture changes pretty locally. Lots of bars, even towns with a few hundred people have a bar.

Moved from CA to Missouri 2 years ago. Spent my whole life until 28 in CA. Shits way cheaper here. Most rural people are simple folk. Young men are obsessed with trucks and guns and looking masculine by chewing tobacco. Young women are obsessed with either God (or church for that matter since church is social) or being a country girl whatever the fuck that means.
The cities are a bit more diverse and that's where a lot more crime is and where those same church girls end up on the street asking you to let them suck yer cack for 20 bucks
