yea

Why is every martial arts gym in my city BJJ? Is it any good? My choices are HEMA, BJJ and Muay Thai it seems. Haven't done martial arts since I was a kid. I like that BJJ has grappling/ground combat at least. I really wish I could find somewhere that focused on Pankration.

BJJ is fun and IMO uniquely good and building mental resilience to stressful situations, ie being stuck under someone much heavier than you not able to breathe.

t. Did taekwondo as a kid, muay Thai early 20s, BJJ late 20s

Interesting. How was your Muay Thai experience? One of the gyms near me offers both I believe.

Muay Thai is good fun but you can't spar as hard or as frequently because of head injury risk, we therefore ended up doing mostly pad and bag work sparring once or twice per month. In BJJ we spar every session which is more fun IMO.

If you're interested in self defence or MMA I would definitely do both, however it's probably easier to get good at one then add in another rather than starting both at the same time.

I only do BJJ now because I'm an "information worker" and have to be in camera a lot for my job. A black eye and mild concussion might scare clients off and definitely would make the maths harder.

If I was NEET I'd do both, and find a MT school that controls the intensity of sparring so that you can spar more often.

Forgot to add, whatever you end up doing, take the time to ensure you don't waste your money at a mcdojo. The school i train at (as a casual) has a thriving competition team and the two head instructors compete and win regularly at a national and international level.

I've quit multiple drugs for 6 months or longer, only use weed once a week. Feels fantastic. Hardly drink anymore too.

Cool stuff, thanks for the tips

Fuck you

Pretty much everyone in this thread is talking about health and exercise. You're probably just upset that your favorite coombait thread died.
