Bunch of teenagers with barely any understanding of themselves who try to make "thought" out videos over complicating their simplistic and generic views and getting a bunch of people to agree with them because they feel like they're the underdogs. Or if they're popular, (excluding MatthewMatosis) than a bunch of people who read wikipedia articles and try to clickbait endlessly.

No i can hardly imagine a video being more then 1 hour and a half at max

It's literally just a recap of the gameplay and plot, even the 'good' ones like MatthewMatosis. YouTubers can never create, just grift off already existing media.

All these games have already been analyzed to death by video essays from a decade ago. I was watching a newish Half-Life essay by some zoomer the other day and I realized: I already know all this. All of the "little-known" details and bits of lore or development history have already been covered a thousand times over.
Joke's on me for watching a video essay I guess, but I don't see how these zoomers can self-seriously rehash material that is already available from a hundred other videos hosted on the same platform.

I enjoy some of the more thoughtful analysis but the videos that go through the entire game and its development history (aka reading wikipedia articles) instead of illustrating a point, presenting an argument, or offering a review aren't worth watching.
I don't think there are any good ones that spend more than an hour on a given game.

The only decent media analysis/video essay channel I've ever seen is Like Stories of Old (he primarily does movies over vidya though), and his videos are pretty much always in the realm of 10-30 minutes and make a coherent and original point about some of the themes present.
Spending several hours simply recounting the plot of something isn't an analysis, or a retrospective or whatever the fuck, it's just you hoping the length of your video will mask how fucking devoid it is of any meaning

It is almost never fucking "in-depth", it's usually just the mentality of "oh it's longer so it must be deeper!!!" when usually they could compile their fucking opinions into 20-30 minutes. They repeat themselves ad nauseum saying the most basic shit over and over again, hoping the length of the video somehow convinces people that it's deep.
