Pretty much this. The county I live in built a bike trail from the north of the county the whole way down to the southern border. It rides parallel to the main road and the interstate and passes by a bunch of areas to stop and grab a bite to eat. It's very well maintained and scenic. There's hundreds of access points where you can just jump on and ride or jog for a little bit.

Back then kids would ride their bikes all around the neighborhood and to parks. Sometimes parents would go riding with them on their days off and sometimes they would go riding just for fun. It was never a main means of transportation and all you really needed to ride a bike was your bike. Then liberals came along and enacted laws of helmets, licenses, and started wearing bodysuits and kneepads pretending like bikes are some major aspect of transportation. They made it where most cities banned kids from riding around without an adult because bikes are so "dangerous" and the cost of a good bike skyrocketed. Now you see laws where you have to use hand signals and all this bullshit just to ride a fucking bike because they want to treat them like cars. The freedom is gone with riding bikes and instead they turned a mainly kid thing into an adult activity. They basically made bikes so fucking gay even a fag would call riding around on a bike as your main way of transportation gay. But that's what the left dose.

Thing is riding a bike is a luxury. Few people have the time or energy take a bike ride, or they live in carsvillle.

It's been there for decades, I've rode my bike on it and walked along it multiple times. Nothing like that happens.
