Way easier to just smash it. Burning it is a waste of time and will give you cancer. Open it, break all the platters to pieces and dump it. If its an ssd make sure every flash chip is smashed in real well. The NSA uses hard drive shredders. Encryption can be broken. Putting back together pieces of a hard drive is impossible, even if they could do it you have virtually destroyed the data in the process

Data can be recovered if you just write ones over the whole disk. Not 100% but probably well enough to find something incriminating. Smashing it is faster and safer. If you really want to resell it or something at least follow DoD 5220.22-M procedure
