earth observation satellites are on the verge of ending conventional war. it may be hard to see from the hard physics side of things, but from the military domain, space has revolutionized warfare (ICBMs and beyond) in a way which is very likely to one day lead to global pacification (end of war, one way or the other).
keep in mind that space is the only infinite resource in the universe (more being made every moment). it is excellent for energy radiation and spreading out, and will ultimately be the source of human civilization's energy and industry (optimistic scenario).
it is also a possible behavioral sink on a civilizational scale--after all, what purpose is there in life if our species will forever remain bound to earth by gravity/dV? should we not rather prefer to use our tools to build better tools and see what might be possible instead of just sitting around waiting for the sun to explode?

The main principle is that by looking at the universe we understand how life on earth works.
It's essentially a main driver for fundamental sciences.

We got nuclear energy a century earlier because people noticed that the sun couldn't be the result of combustion and looked into other sources of energy leading to the discovery of radio-isotopes.
Most recently, the staples of engineering design have improved tenfold due to the space race.
And on the topic of space race, it is the healthies form of competition for mankind.
Also its money not spent on niggers and kikes.
In the last 30 years:
The ex-Soviets Rosscosmos are at the level of over glorified taxi-drivers when they are not testing their latest satellite kill vehicle.
NASA is essentially a social benefits program for the academia that sends their annual space-toy to look at things we already have looked at but this time with a bigger basedface.
China biggest achievements was to not drop every fifth booster on a village and prove that niggers will be useful on the moon as cotton can grow there.
The ISS advances science with a snails pace with the only benefits being like making phone chips 0.23% cheaper, when it should have been an industrial space city that can benefit from 0G industrial production.
