When you realize that Reddit is a function of the government, and that its earnings, its moderators, and its IPO doesnt matter. I imagine most of the admins can't stand having to deal with them and just give them shit to shut them up while trying to do something about them behind the scenes.

One user proposed calling moderators "content workers" so that you can spin it into a positive "workers rights and fair pay" angle, which is so popular there. Someone even created r/contentworkers

Yes, Reddit mods are unpaid and unregistered interns without work contract, insurance, anything. Yes, they are objectively lower in status than the €3/h Romanian immigrant girl who keeps my garden in order.

Not by reddit, but I believe the power mods that control the most popular subs get compensation.
Surely some are fanatical political nutjobs that do it for free, but I'd be surprised if most are getting paid quite well to get views and to push narratives.
