Kyoto > Kioto
Yokohama > Jokohama
Tokyo > Tokio
For European countries I understand this as they have been in our vicinity for rather long
only places outside of Europe or Japan that I know we have translated like this are Cape town > Kapkaupunki and Hawaii > Havaji
