Alt rock has little to no life in it and jazz fusion commonly has exciting and adventurous musicianship. When you listen to alternative rock it's mostly just a rehash of stuff done ~30 years ago that not even the musician is new too or shows any real mastery of. The song writing is also toothless and afraid to expand or explore so a lot of alt rock has no forward progression or any progression at all .

the common denominator being the rawness/energy/charisma of the music technical ability is great and all but art preoccupied with polish has no time or space for a true vision to come through

Least Soul:
Prog Rock for sure. Alt Rock may be soulless now but it was originally a response to shit mainstream rock like hair-metal which is the second most soulless genre. Third is pop-punk.
