Nobody actually thinks she looks like Ariel, they just either hate redheads, hate people with white skin, fetishize black people, and/or they want to signal their virtue.
The simple fact of the matter is that these social justice ideologues don't sincerely believe a black person can succeed in their own story and so instead of crafting a satisfying narrative and compelling character they take an already established piece of media and race-swap.
The sad part of it all is that there is a legitimate argument to have been made a few decades ago. In societies that are predominately of one kind of people they typically produce plays, movies, shows, etc. starring said kind of people. When it comes to live-action, it really blows that a person that is perfectly talented enough to be in a show doesn't get cast because they weren't graced with certain traits at birth. However in this zeitgeist? It's not that new plays, movies, shows, etc. can't be produced to accommodate every person with talent. It's just people refuse to produce them.

You have a very good point, but that's only an issue when they remake something where the character's race is explicit and even more so when it's important to the lore of the character and changing it changes the lore. It can still be done well, however. Just, there are more risks of it going wrong.
However, it's always important to look closely. This example is insignificant as her being black changes nothing. It's not like it's James Bond or something. And with Sandman, Neil Gaiman chose to do that out of his own genuine desire to be racially conscious (and the adaptation was still pretty good).
