Using just a DNS filter is arguably better for privacy than ublock because it makes your browser fingerprint less unique.

privacy aside, pihole and similar dns filters are definitely an inferior solution when it comes to ad-blocking compared to ublock origin. so yes manifest v3 coming and fucking up extensions is huge and no amount of dns sinkhole/filter can even amount to the number of ads being blocked by ublock origin.
