Spoke to my doctor, I probably have undiagnosed adult ADHD. Going to a psychiatrist soon.
Do ADHD meds help? What's the difference like, especially for someone doing a reading-intensive degree?

ADHD meds are basically speed. Will fuck up your dopamine receptors probably.
Find out what works for you. Stay off processed carbs and refined sugars. That shit only makes it worse. It can be hard to adjust yourself to a certain diet but finding out what your body needs is very important in fixing yourself.
Also check out "circadian rythm". Make sure blue light from screens doesn't play a role too.

- good for you even if he diagnose a different illness, you get help for what ever problem you doc saw. ( hopefully)

like said adhd med are speed. the problem with adhd if a broken filter. everyone of us get 24/7 signals from all our senses. but it gets automatic filtert out to just the essentials ( or what you brain things this is, way to often it decides wrong). ADHD brain cant do this ( or at least just to a certain degree. so while others only have to process very few things at a time. eg speaking to someone. have to process voice facial expressions and gesturing and cope the horns from a nearby car. ADHDs have to process ALL other things. every cars engine, the feeling of clothing, wind, the hardness and texture of the chair they are sitting und. every other voice nearby. a bird flying across the window. ANY smell .. and so on and so on.
adhd med just make you fast enough to working through all of it. ( Like hammy in over the hege with the energy drink the world slows down for you). get more done don't get exhausted this fast cause your brains won't be full of impressions after three hours awake. that's best it can do if you got the right med in the right doses
Most jackasses with try to tell you, that you do not need medicine or that ADHD is fake.
Most of us only need the meds for 7-10 years, because you will get neuroplasticity and your prefrontal cortex will correct itself. I got on meds because my performance on the job was about to get me fired. Was on meds 7 years and don't need them anymore. I had adult ADD. I make much bigger money and have none of the symptoms for many years now.
I have a daughter with severe ADHD now. She take more meds than I did. So in alot of ways, I never did escape it. Her mom has it too, but is very mild. I have to work with several people that have it too, and are unmedicated, which is very aggravating because they disrupt the teams we work on, and talk excessively on conference calls. Nobody can get a word in, because they will not shut the fuck up for even 2 seconds.
Unlike probably all other mental disorders, only ADHD is curable for many. There is no reason to jump on the "It's Fake" bandwagon and suffer all the consequences, annoying anyone that knows you.
I got on the dex after getting diagnosed last year. Immediately changed my life for the better, I'd never go back. Would've quit my PhD without it.
See if it works for you, you can always stop
Those ADHD Meds ruined my life. Learning discipline through MMA was much healthier and productive for me
Funny. I got off the dex after 3 years. It's not going to help you forever. You're gonna have to take responsibility for yourself soon.
I was an MMA fighter with ADD. I did not get better until I got on meds.
is adhd actually just being dumb?
did you read any of that above you ? - how can you then come to that conclusion unless you think all mma fighters are stupid.
As someone who earns his money by diagnosing ADHD and that includes an IQ test, I can tell you that ADHD children and adolescents have a higher IQ on average. It is assumed that adhd is an attempt by nature to deal with the increased demands. ( yeah thats not how evolution works i know) Perception is turned up and the mind also, to process everything. only that the mind would have to get way more power to actually deal with the amount of additional information.
