You have no way to prove that, most living being are single celled organisms and as the human population has grown, the animal population has collapsed, but single cells are too prolific to try to maintain an accurate over time.

I've done the hedonistic drug thing....wild sexual experiences...and it provides happiness and pleasure that was very fleeting. Being in a loving committed relationship was infinitely more satisfying....and infinitely more devastating when it ended.
Also addiction turns your hedonistic activities into habits to feel normal rather than feel good or special. There is a reason people feel amazing being sober once they get through withdrawls.

Because net *pleasure* does not make you happy. Choose something else. I choose to try to understand the world and to experience my unique slice of the world to the best of my abilities. You can choose to connect with other people, or to dominate them, or whatever floats your boat. Some drugs are part of that experience (psychedelics for instance were a very worthwhile thing for me to experience), but just jacking off and stuffing my face does not make me feel good in the long run.
