I've tried escitalopram and venlafaxine for depression/anhedonia which didn't do much for me.
Now I was looking for a new kind of antidepressant to try considering I've already tried SSRI and SNRI.
I stumbled upon moclobemide which seemed appealing because, if I understand correctly, it is better tolerated than TCAs, works quite quickly, has no sexual side effects (even reports of increased libido), low risk of toxicity and is effective at treating depression.
I suggested this to my psychiatrist and she said she was not too familiar with this drug and said that MAOI generally have a lot of side effects as well as complications with high blood pressure. She also checked her guidelines and said moclobemide isn't even in the guidelines for depression. She suggested to instead try nortriptyline or bupropion.
I can be quite stubborn, but I got the impression that she didn't know enough about moclobemide to fairly consider it as an option.
Tl:dr; psychiatrist seems uninformed/misinformed about moclobemide which I'd like to try. Should I insist on wanting to try it or accept her advice to try bupropion?

fyi, bupropion, welbutron is absolutely shit. there is a honeymoon phase but it doesnt work for shit. ofc ivermectin cannot be used for anything anymore, not even jsut off label, welbutrin is only off label. quit smoking? lose weight? sure why not. it doesnt work.
did you know new studies show that depression, there isnt even proof there is a "chemical imbalance"? Also, dont trust therapy, unless youve been raped as a kid. but then they will just pill you up. i dont believe in shit, fuck anything in the realm of "mindfulness" but you just have to concur it.

Have you considered the norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor route?
Keep taking the SSRI but ask your doctor to add in Wellbutrin (Bupropion).
Wellbutrin doesn't get enough credit. When coupled with SSRIs it can be a game changer for a lot of people.
The SSRI will continue to work on serotonin but the Wellbutrin will add in an effect on norepinephrine and dopamine.
This will give you a weaker but similar effect to an MAOI as an MAOI interacts with all 3 of these neurotransmitters. The risks are much lower though as these medications are more targeted and the doses can be more easily adjusted.
This is entirely safe. Doctors prescribe this combination regularly.

Just take Adderall/Ritalin. Wellbutrin barely has an effect.

Wellbutrin doesn't suffer from the same tolerance issues and the dose can be more accurately tailored.
Adderall works quick but you build up a tolerance quick. That isn't helpful for depression. The constant dosing adjustments can lead to a slingshot effect.
You're also not going to easily get an Adderall script. They require a diagnosis from an ADHD specialist and that can take months depending on the route you take.
