In Europe, especially in the 90's, antifa was much more serious as they were ex members or supporters of the red army faction and various "red brigades" from Germany, Italy, france, Austria etc. The guys from Germany and Italy actually assassinated people, kidnapped people etc.

The trend among western socialists in academia has been pro-corporation for a while now. The rationale is that if a corporation is able to monopolize the entire market organically, then this proves that central planning works, since such a corporation would be in control of the entire economy and thus be a central planner. Since socialists in the USSR, Cambodia, etc didn't know the right way to do central planning, and since they anticipate that markets will eventually produce an absolute monopoly winner, the trend is now to accelerate the emergence of such an absolute monopoly, since once this has been created, the means of efficient central planning will have also been created, and thus all that remains is for the state to oust the owners and make it public property. They hate small businesses more than mega-corporations because they see the death of small businesses as inevitable, and the longer small businesses try to hold out, the more they waste everyone's time. The sooner all the small businesses die and Amazon (or whoever) monopolizes the entire market and becomes a de-facto central planner, the sooner they can oust Bezos (or whoever) and take control of it, at which point they now have efficient central planning. Their previous attempts at central planning were inefficient because they didn't know wtf they were doing, but this time they expect it to be efficient since it needs to be efficient if it is able to win the race to monopolize the entire market. They don't need to worry about how to design the machine, just accelerate monopolization then seize control of the resulting monopoly,
