mossad spyware

it is supposed to be an alternative to discord, right?

I use it. Most channels seem to be overrun with the dumbest fucking culture war LARPers imaginable, and the main homeserver's admins are hysterical California libs who I've seen disable entire rooms of accounts over people reporting each other for saying nigger. The other homeservers are predominately filled with retards on other ends of the spectrum who are no less retarded and just as likely to ban you if you upset their hair trigger autism temper.

It just isn't fun to deal with people who are obsessed with their American media bubble, and it's only going to get worse, as they want to bake Twitter-style blacklist bots into the protocol its self.

Yes.
Mine.

Unix porn

I've noticed that everyone that cries about "muh mossad spyware" never even tries to offer any alternative. Do you actually believe what you say or are you just being contrarian? What messenger would you actually recommend then that *isn't* spyware? Because I personally can't think of anything better than Matrix.

People who use Matrix are being contrarian. If you want an alternative to a messaging protocol that doesn't offer any significant privacy to begin with, use IRC. I used Matrix and everyone I got to know there used public rooms almost exclusively, which completely nullified any benefits they might have been getting from the E2EE support it has. If you want something that doesn't shit out your metadata at every possible occasion, use XMPP. Matrix is just awful when it comes to privacy

what are some xmpp servers with atleast somewhat popular (more than 20 user) channels?

Oh IRC is indeed great for public rooms, it even leaks you IP. Also the benefit of Matrix is that if you want to dm someone in a public room, it's e2ee
Good luck getting a normie to use XMPP with whatever plugins that needs for e2ee (omemo?)

I wanted to, but synapse is a fucking mess of a service and finding a client that works on android, ios and linux with dendrite is like performing a vasectomy with a toffee hammer. I really don't know how they made self-hosting more convoluted than the nightmare that is XMPP servers.

>pacman -Syu matrix-synapse
>Some minor config changes, read a setup guide
>systemctl enable --now synapse
This was so hard!

What subject? Most are similar to IRC where they discuss specific projects or topics

>Arch
>Random tutorials
>Hoping that the matrix developers set and maintain proactively secure defaults
How to spot someone that doesn't run anything in production with consequence, in three. Have fun:

I'm talking about this guide matrix-org.github.io/synapse/latest/setup/installation.html, which isn't some "random tutorial"
>Hoping that the matrix developers set and maintain proactively secure defaults
They actually do
t. hosts his own mail + matrix server for ~ 1 year now and never has any issues with it

i only have to use it for 1 fucking guy

This what real love looks like.

>xmpp
Enjoy your mitm archive . ph/RuAGN

>If you want something that doesn't shit out your metadata at every possible occasion, use XMPP
XMPP does shit out your metadata though, as well as your IP address, as well as being completely unencrypted, as well as not supporting video and audio, as well as not supporting group chats. XMPP is FOSS AIM, not FOSS Discord.
