90's > 80's > 00's > 10's > 20's

Isn't that the bitch from RanxSem(en)?

00's is just plain retarded. The others look like dolls without a soul. 90's really is the best, then 80's

From Soul to Soulless

>LE OLD GOOD NEW BAD
Shut the fuck up grandpa.

90>20>10>80>00
we're heading to a decent direction, I have to say

This image made me want to watch Trigun again

Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!

The best anime that it's currently airing is 25 years old.

Attached: one-piece-1015.jpg (1723x967, 109.55K)

>25 years old
Has One Piece really been going for that long? Holy shit just end it already.

It stopped being the best after the timeskip and it certainly jumped the shark recently

Lobco to Ruina is a pretty big jump in quality and art style since the guys making it managed to use the money from the first game to fund their second

Attached: 1645247471703.png (986x679, 704.02K)

It's The Simpsons of anime so it won't.

00's best one

For me, it's 00's. I like that sort of melancholic look she has

She went from femdom to watersport in 4 decades.

>pic unrelated

An interesting evolution towards unobtainable aesthetic perfection.

Sanae's UFO face is still the best however

>good

This.
80's and 90's style really has that 'spunk'.
90's has a lot of sharp line language.
80's has more softness, but seems more detailed and thought out.

00's, while having a lot of sharp lines, fails as it becomes more minimalized. The colors are muted, the eyes 'look' wrong and soulless. The overall shape language looks strange.

Don't get me started on 10's.
20's is even worse.

80s = 90s > 00s >>> 10s >>>>> 20s

for me, it's moeblobs

my thoughts exactly, though I'm heavily biased towards that age

90 and 80 can be interchanged on taste, but the rest is indisputable
Anyone who claims to like 00 is a retard huffing pure nostalgia

There's at least 3 "Simpsons of anime" and neither is one piece.

I don't remember the 90's looking like that...

80's post coming soon

Where were you?

i dont know why that's used as an example when its like one show that had that style

Came here to post this. Couldn't agree more.

80s>00s>90s>10s>20s

For me it's 80s > 20s > 90s > 10s > 00s
But the best are the ones that don't rigidly conform to the popular art style of the day.

based based based
retarded s oy

The 90s had lots of different artstyles. Every era does really, which is why these charts are retarded, and the one representante the 90s in particular looks like something more from the late 80s even.

00ss>10s>20s>s

>noooo not my heckin Haruhiface

that's because it's a bait image

Don't know the first two, and Berserk should only be read. I've tried multiple times to watch Trigun, but I just get bored and stop every time.

sorry loser boomers and zoomers. sorrowful 00s will not be surpassed.

10s and 20s looks so bad. Computer animation was a mistake

None of these could match Ghiblis style

Dragon Ball Z is actually an 80's anime.

is there a single artistic medium that did NOT peak in the 90s?

Man I never got why 2000s artists in general made their eyes look super dark. It always gave it that doll/bugeye look. 2010s onward I noticed artists started brightening up the eyes a little more so it wasn't like you were staring into the abyss.
Also, beatmania.

UFO has the best portraits

Yes!

Sorry, Ashita no Joe 2. That ran during the 80's, but you're right that the original aired during the 70's. Personally I don't feel good spliting Dragonball and DBZ across the 80's and 90's, but DBZ first aired in 1989...

Please, I was getting direct to video dvds and vhs. You know, those cards you had to fill out in the back of a mag or sometimes in the dvd box?

Not to my knowledge.

I wish but its over before it hits 35

I like the top 3 but not the bottom 2. Top 3 looks like the person has completely different personalities though, like they are not the same person even though they are.

The 2000's was the absolute low point for jap artstyles.

Attached: Clannad.jpg (1268x1600, 474.48K)

Eh, i would place 80s and 90s as equals. 90s could get really out there with their stylized designs.

*2007

Wing is great, acquire taste.

Trigun starts a bit goofy but gets a lot better by the end where it's more plot heavy. I know that's a cop-out for a lot of stuff, but it's just the way it is. Suffers a bit from outdated anime tropes too, which can be a bit hard to stomach.

Always annoyed me that they fucked up the hair in the 90s one. It needs the big spiky hair to balance out the warped face.

It's more about that it most strongly represents many of the aspects to 90s anime designs, then actually representing an average. Although there were definitely more than one show with that style. I can think of Slayers and Saber Marionettes off the top of my head.

the transition from late 90's hand drawn kino to early digital 2000's anime was so fucking rough, the first HxH anime and it's OVA's are a good example of it

>recognize shows from watching them on Toonami
>feel insecure about being introduced to said shows by Toonami and try to shame others for liking those shows (which were only on Toonami in the first place because they were all of the most marketable shows of that time period)

>Crayon Shin-chan
>Chibi Maruko-chan
>Doraemon
Did I get it right?

Pretty sure bakemonogatari came out in 2010

Attached: grils in mono.png (1920x1080, 1.69M)

I don't mind things with slow starts a chance, but from what I watched it just felt like there wasn't anything there for me apart from the character design.

But anime peaked in the 80s

I like 90s, 80s, and 10s.

Attached: 1383429807268.jpg (1200x919, 386.64K)

Most of DBZ's run was during the early 90s, the manga was more late 80s though.

Anime peaked in the 80s.

Attached: 1508422670364.jpg (1600x1569, 643.48K)

Looks based. I think I'll watch this after work

Doesn't change that it started in 89 making it an 80's anime.

Based Front Mission enjoyer

Attached: IMG_20210322_203753.png (1009x944, 1.14M)

It's probably one of those things where it helps a lot if you watched it when it came out. Might just not have enough substance to it beyond it being cool looking for the time.

best to worst is chronological
kys uncultured zoomers

100%. I have no idea how people could like that era. I mean every period has some good stuff, but on average it was an artistic black hole.

Objectively correct.

ROPE

Sure, Sazae San comes to mind too, and I guess there's Anpanman too.
You could even include Detective Conan if you're willing to ignore the handful actually plot relevant episodes.

The change to digital was messy. At the time, i guess it was seen as either novel or unique. Personally, early digitally colored anime is an acquired taste.

no, the 90s looked like this

Attached: amelia.jpg (354x308, 18.32K)

I mean, if you're going with that logic then current One Piece is a 90s anime then I guess.

Patlabor 2 came out in 93, his statement is objectively correct.

Attached: 1496529724399.webm (800x432, 1.79M)

Yes. Everybody knows that. That is literally how decades work.

Shame that Ninja Scrolls and Kawajiri's stuff in general is being forgotten by zoomies. Ninja Scroll used to be one of the big three things you'd always recommend to people getting into anime along with Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I feel like the other 2 are still considered classics, but I often see Ninja Scroll get left out.

Although most of them on the graph I have watched.

>Lain

>Hakusho
>GitS
>Berserk OVA
>Ruroni
>Trigun
>Outlaw Star

I will say that the early 00's had some of that 90s asthetic left over from it, though. Inuyasha and Monster come to mind.

1989 is actually 1990 because they accidentally did 1266 twice which threw everything off

It's probably for the best it will be under the radar.

They say the 00s was the golden age but the 90s had the most eternal classics.

>They say the 00s was the golden age
Who the hell is "they"?

I watched Trigun shortly after it originally aired and always thought it was shit. Slightly fun shit with an amazing OP and cool looking character, but still shit. They blew all their budget in the first episode, and then it was some of the worst animation and art I've ever seen in a popular show. If you want a fun action comedy from the 90s literally pick anything else. It's the poor mans Outlaw Star, which is the poor mans Cowboy Bebop.

you do realize communicating with monkeys (niggers) still makes you bilingual.

I have never seen anyone say this and I've been watching anime since the 90's.

>Complaining about clannad
If anything it was better because it was poison that kept away normalfag niggers like you, now anime is more popular than ever.

>Oshii rambling for roughly 2 hours about peace and war while Goto and Shinobu watch a terrorist almost start a war
And i like patlabor 2 a lot, mind you

Etrian Odyssey.
The alchemist portraits are from Etrian Odyssey (untold) 2, the warlock portraits are from Etrian Odyssey 5. It's the exact same artist.

Attached: alchemistvswarlock.png (1333x1048, 1.01M)

00s is key-no though?

Animation is great, but I couldn't stand Oshi's philosophical ramblings. Whole movie felt like a fuck you to patlabor and just him moral grandstanding and literally shitting on military Otaku that made up his fanbase. All came off as pure sophistry. Maybe it just went over my head though, I need to rewatch it.

20s>80s>90s>10s>s

you know you can just draw things in your own style.

When people (especially people on here) started fooling themselves into believing they weren't mentally ill for watching a 23 minute episode of moeblobs doing shit that is horrendously unfunny and thought it was the best shit ever.

top soul
bottom soulless
simple as

Here come the nostalgiafags

90s > 00s > 80s > 10s > 20s > KyoAni 00s (cringe ass image for acting like that's the basis for 00s style)

80 and 90 had many styles but those retards loves to think everything tjere looked like Sailor Moon and Ramna 1/2

Watch literally any 00s anime that isn't Clannad or Air you stupid fuck

How does the 90s look anything like Sailor Moon. It's a combination of several including Evangelion, Gundam Wing, Trigun, etc etc.
How is a blind person like yourself allowed to be this bold?

This. "Lucky Star" type of anime ruined everything with the "Naruto" ones. Literally the worse kind of anime. Many troons of today werr Haruhifags of yesterday.

80s is peak for both. Males start to look bad in the 2000s, but females never reach that point. There aren't many female character designs from the 90s that I actually like on an individual basis, though.

ayo

It's literally not.

you are not on Any Forums faggot stop trying to fit in there

It is. Hard, sharp outlines. The style of the eyes are more serious and edgier. But sure, we'll go with it looking like cutesy Sailor Moon because that's totally correct.

Macross, Slayers, Clannad, Love Live, ?????

Is it true that all anime conventions, with all their evolution and mutations, can be traced back to these two characters?

Attached: Popeye Betty Boop.jpg (344x197, 18.74K)

No. They have a lot of inspiration from old Disney cartoons like Cindarella and Snow White.

I would say early animation as a whole, mainly disney. Tezuka himself was a disney fan.

Attached: images - 2022-08-22T154917.978.jpg (459x667, 74.75K)

No it was mostly Disney, so maybe Steamboat Willie.

Soviet animation was also a big influence

People are saying Disney but I would dare to say that the cartoony action that was prevalent in Popeye is far more influential to the medium over the years.

I disagree about Berserk, the first anime release is something I always return to.

I argue it's not and that's a good thing. The Simpsons weren't just popular, but it was a cultural representation of the period of America. Because the Simpsons has lost good writers and chooses to only keep the stupid surface level takes without the actual quality writing it has devolved to "lol now Homer has [current piece of technology]" or "Bart gets to hang out with [celebrity] now!" The shit that made it magical is long gone.
One Piece has changed, but what it represented and does represent didn't. It's always been a shonen focused around the ideology of freedom and ambitions. That true freedom to explore and do what drives your passion is what we all should achieve, but keeping your ambitions in check compared to its impact in the world is also something to be wary of. This is a theme that really comes to boil by the foil characteristics of the series protagonist, Luffy, and his archrival Blackbeard. Though the series might behave like anime of its period, starting out as a shonen with traveling protagonists as many 90s anime did, the troopes, style, fanservice, and visual trends such as Nami and Robin's styles and breasts, Chopper's charamatsu-esque style change make it a product of its times for sure, but the flaws of the series have little to do with that, nor did it ever represent a depiction of Japanese culture of life from any period.

Attached: file.png (1200x675, 763.16K)

People say Disney instead of Popeye because Popeye started as a comic character, Steamboat Willie came out a year before Popeye. The first Popeye cartoon wasn't until 1933 and Disney had been making animations that whole time.

I am aware. I mentioned the reason why I would think Popeye is more influential. I could see Popeye leading to the creation of Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, not Steamboat Willie.

I like Ruina's art but honestly if I saw it first I wouldn't have looked into it further, especially if I had seen the people first. Stuff like Big Bird's sketched children's book appearance and the smooth little doll look of the nugs in LC made me give the game a look so I could see what it was about.

The new art makes me irrationally angry I haven't even finished Muv Luv
