No it isnt you fucking retarded mongrel. Sails get pushed by wind. Ship moves in direction. Wind goes in wrong direction? You're fucked. No wind? You're fucked.
In this case the wind powers an engine that will steer you in your desired direction at all times, no matter where the wind comes from. If there is no wind, the ship still keeps going cause it likely has fuel on board and might even get charged up with wind to a surplus.

To be fair you can't sail directly into the wind on a sail boat without a motor, you have to be at a slightly off angle and zig zag, which is slow and time consuming and the speed you get isn't as much as you'd get sailing in a direction with the wind. With a motor you get more consistency and better control, the person you are replying to made a good point and you just had to sperg out over a small detail
