What's the (GUI) text editor that is good for viewing files and some mild editing, files which can be huge sometimes?

Emacs.

Sublime Text

I'm talking like reaaaally fast to open big files
It has to be able to edit but only basic editing is fine

you are seeking a normal solution to an abnormal problem

Well opening a big file with Geany takes around 6 seconds. Talking about 187,373 lines. Is that as good as it gets?

Scite?

Holy shit that's fast
It opens the file mentioned above pretty much instantly
Thanks!

Only problem right now is that some chars are not displayed

lite-xl

do you have an example file? i'm just curious how long it takes my editor to open it.

ttm.sh/qTb.txt
Just made this sample file
This takes around 10 seconds to open with geany
And opens instantly with scite

This

gvim seems to open this quite quickly. i think it's because it lacks syntax highlighting requirements, as gvim is usually quite slow on larger files from my experience. it takes 0.164s for me with non-default settings on this file.

my mistake that was the time to fork. it's 0.313s.

Opens in a split second in Emacs for me. Geany must be complete shit if it can't handle this.

Here's some file with some java
ttm.sh/qTw.java
Takes like 5 seconds with geany
Pic related is how I gen the file

>mild editing
wtf is mild editing

not sure what's up with your geany version.
that file opens essentially instantly both in geany and scite for me. that's also what I'd expect since both editors use scintilla as their text editing component.
anyway, another quick gui editor is qemacs although it may lack some features that you want.
