All the shit sequels did a good enough job at ruining the franchise

It's awesome in that the callbacks are minimal, and yes, it works on its own merits. In fact if you'd never seen the original, you could realistically watch this first and it wouldn't be at all detrimental

It's a surprisingly decent watch, especially considering the bulk of the Predator/AvP films. The CGI for the animals is godawful and the plot armor is very obvious, but otherwise it's a really fun action movie that reminds me more of the mid-budget early 2000s type action movies like anything with Will Smith etc, which for me, I really enjoyed and miss that they barely exist anymore.

Yes the feminist bullshit is there, idk about classic feminists shit but I get you. It's annoying in parts where they try to lay it on thicker. But it's a classic alien predator, (albeit nearly 300 years before the original movie's timeline so its tech is not as advanced or at least as common) with a predator fucking people up while also being hunted. There's enough carnage to enjoy most scenes of the movie.

It's pretty good. Has some cool scenes. Animal CGI is awful, but it's a small thing. Solid 7/10.
