Diablo 2. It was my favorite game in elementary/middle school. It or Deus Ex are probably goty for 2000. It’s such rudimentary game now. D3 is legitimately more fun than it today.

Only game that has genuinely aged poorly is Half-Life 2
Physics puzzles, vehicle sections, unskippable totally-not-cutscenes... these were all neat novelties at the time but these days they are just fucking awful

I think a lot of earlier JRPGs would qualify for this. The story elements are generally more rudimentary, random encounter rates and dungeon layouts can be absurd (FF2 comes to mind), and so on. I don't know a single soul who played DQ1 without fast-forward in this day and age, for instance.

Genuinely, the Sonic Adventure games. More specifically Sonic Adventure 2. As much as I love these games, they were overloaded with stuff that definitely impressed in the early '00s but as time went on, the cracks in the design just became more and more apparent.

I decided to give the Metro games a try, but was turned off after only a few minutes. Hard to believe these games were used to benchmark graphics cards a few years ago.

amongst those systems, nes is like a console generation ahead of c64 in terms of gameplay and the Gameboy is a generation ahead of the nes. c64 games are like apple ii or atari games with better graphics and sound. gameboy games are like late nes or snes games in terms of game design but with considerably neutered graphics.
