Zoners typically have bad frame data up close, so a rushdown will just twerk on you. Hence the whole "Zoner" archetype.
Sure, it can work, but it relies more on the enemy just being bad. If you zone and make them approach, you can counter their approach and force misplays.

Like I said, it can work, but there are characters that will just out frame-data you.
If you enjoy rushdown, it would be better to play a rushdown character because they have better tools for the role. Especially when you start playing better opponents.
Then again, Smash's roster is so big just about every playstyle gets covered and it's more abstract.
