Gas prices averaged around $2.50 under Trump. They were not "under $2." Trump's average is about the same as under Obama, though prices were lower for the last two years of Obama's second term. They have had a spike this year, while Biden is President, peaking at $5.03, so you were pretty much spot on there. However, prices have been in decline for about a month -- they were higher in June than in July, they were higher last week than this week, they were higher yesterday than today. Partially this is due to production of domestic crude oil continuing to increase again following the Covid decline. Partially this is due to peak summer demand dropping back. Partially this is due to optics like Biden's Saudi trip, and probably the Fed's anti-inflation efforts are having some impact. Very little of the rise or decline have anything to do with who is President, but if you insist that the President determines gas prices, make sure to keep saying that if prices continue to drop between now and the end of the year, as is expected.
