I switched to 7zip. I don't think WinRAR is truly that much shittier? 7z can achieve better compression but WinRAR can still decompress it so it's no big deal if you choose to use one or the other. Also when has recovery ever been useful in WinRAR? I used it to repair some fucked up zip files I got before but I also figured out I could do it manually with a hex editor. The site I got them from was adding some html at the start of them.

I've been told all over that 7-zip is superior to Winrar. At first I was skeptical. Winrar is so much better, right? Wrong. 7-zip is like ray of sunshine in these dark times. It doesn't change every file you download to a book icon and it doesn't pressure you to pay for anything. You just right click something you want extract, and it goes through a less cluttered process like Winrar's. It's so good! The file isn't changed to a Winrar-like file and it has better features than Winrar. I feel a little bad for being so ignorant over these years, but I've finally found the good side.

If it wasn't propietary and Windows only i'd trust it because honestly the RAR5 features look ok. The unrar utility doesn't always work on all rar files and i assume is because it uses those features.
