For me, it's VSCode with the LaTeX Workshop extension.

Gummi, Emacs, Overleaf, or VSCode
I've used TeXstudio for ages and have nothing major to complain about
Neovim.
VSCode's borked latx support was actually the final straw that convinced me to switch to vim three years ago.
Sorry sir, LaTeX on VSCode does not work consistently and it's obvious why; Word is a competitor.
Based.
Word is garbage
Emacs. But there's a language server nowadays so it probably doesn't matter much.
The only LaTeX editor I used was overleaf when I was in college. I liked it, mostly for its collaboration features. It freaks out a bit if two of you start editing the same section at the same time but I don't know any collaboration software where that isn't problematic.
Despite this, Microsoft will clearly try to influence their VSCode LaTeX users to try Word instead. That is very clear and follows in line with their precedence involving interoperability with software they are not a major owner / stakeholder of.
Sounds like m$ alright, same shit they're pulling with edge
vi for me (elvis specifically)
Microsoft knows that there's no chance that a LaTeX user would switch to Word. And LaTeX workshop isn't Microsoft's.
Emacs + AuCTex
This.
The only problem I have is that equations are rendered with a white background rather than transparency. Looks ugly on my color scheme.
overleaf with vim keybinds is actually pretty damn good.
There's definitely a way to fix that (pic related). I don't remember off the top of my head though, I've done it before. It might be just as simple as restarting emacs after you change colorscheme.
I just use vim and run a compile script
The answer for which editor is best for X is always Emacs. Vim a distant second. Everything else is trash
There are still plenty of papers published in Word. Word and LaTeX are competing standards for publication research among which LaTeX is clearly more popular. There is certainly a chance that say a student experiencing difficulties formatting math in VSCode could conceivably use Word instead.
