user, if you were beyond the event horizon of a black hole, it would sort of be like falling into quicksand. every movement, no matter which direction, would move you further into the black hole. the ladder would get spaghettified and climbing “up” it would actually just take you straight back toward the black hole

Black holes aren't "holes", they're objects with weird properties. The most relevant to any close-by human being would be the unfathomable gravity, which would pull you towards it with such power you would be torn to pieces, atom by atom. If you were headed towards a black hole, past a certain point, there is no possible way to escape. It would be certain death, probably pretty quickly, thankfully.
