Imo thisis the result of a failed long term psy op. Experiments in MK Ultra showed humans are easier to control when they're stressed and afraid. News media has been focusing more and more on general violence and socially destabilizing trends. Thus might have worked, but then tge Internet happened and fucked it all up. The extreme influx of information, both legitimate and uncontrolled misinformation, changed the board completely.
