I'm getting progressively more annoyed by the way "engagement" is encouraged across every platform on the Internet. People are constantly being encouraged to "comment and smash that like button," burying any actual discussion and making it absolutely impossible for people with actual expertise to make themselves heard.
In fact, in the name of driving the "engagement" metric, the big social media companies actively try to suppress qualified voices and signal-boost the most inane, infuriating imbecility imaginable to stir up endless and pointless fighting by people who have no actual knowledge of anything being argued about.
There was an example on YouTube recently where a channel posted a video about the dangers of fractal wood burning, noting that more than 30 people have died in just the last year doing it, and that some of the people dying have included professional electricians. It is inherently dangerous for *everyone*. Her video was removed by YouTube under their "dangerous advice" rule, while leaving all the how-to videos about fractal wood burning up.
I've largely stopped trying to contribute factual, useful knowledge because it's instantly buried under an avalanche of idiot zero-content Zoomer babble.
I don't know why I'm even writing this, since Any Forums suffers from the same problem, where OC is buried under a rapid-fire tsunami of celeb, rate-my-cock, and Russian bot-posted racebait threads.
Do you walk around a bookstore or library and pick up books off the shelf like some boomer twink hahahaha reading rainbow headass Niggas don't know about epubs and tablets lmaooo holy shit. You probably still go to the video store for porn and rent DVDs
Junior, I was connecting to the university mainframe on a TTY with a 110 baud modem the size of a toaster oven decades before you got blasted onto your mommy's cervix. Don't teach grandma to suck eggs. That iPhone glued to your tiny little teenybopper earholes was made by people like me.

pissing into the sea of piss. if piss gets engagement, you will drink it and say thank you

It’s encouraged because bots drive artificial traffic to their content. The endless not spam also helps prevent any cohesion. You shpuld look into the dead internet theory.

I don't know how old you are, but I remember a time before AOL in the pre-Web days of Gopher when it was just computer nerds, university students, and actual working scientists talking on Usenet. It was amazing. Intelligent discussion, interesting people, and an open door policy. If you were smart enough to get online, you were inherently trusted. I exchanged email with all kinds of celebrities, mostly sci-fi authors.
It was an amazing experience, one I will never forget, and which makes what happened to the Internet all the more tragic. Sic transit gloria Internet.
I watched that video, sad shit. Same thing happened with another video of the dangers of eating too many ghost peppers (anti ghost-pepper challenge videos) and the warning vid got taken down, but not the actual people promoting the dangerous challenge. Fucking sad shit man.
muh algorithms muh "COMMENT THIS EMOJI TO BE IN THE SECRET CLUB UWU" muh engagement
