There is no defense or prosecution.
It's a gathering of evidence.
It is being gathered by people who believe the Jan 6 riots were an insurrection incited by Trump, so of course they all voted for impeachment.
And finally, the committee can't actually do anything once it's concluded. It's literally just getting testimony from people. The Attourney General can then decide to act on it.
