I am a botanist, and while a seed cannot truly be considered alive in the same manner as the tree, it still lives and breathes. if i put this seed into the vacuum of space, it would die. if i took all of the oxygen and heat it requires, there will be no oak tree.

That’s a good point I hadn’t considered.
I’m not pro-life, but I generally fall back on the argument of, why is it not okay to kill a sleeping person? The answer is predicated on the expectation that the person is reasonably expected to wake up again. What if the person would never wake up again? Then it is generally agreed that it is okay to terminate their life/pull the plug/whatever. So, whether or not it’s okay to kill someone is actually based on their capacity for living in the future, and a viable embryo/fetus has that capacity.
