I live in a blood red state and talk to conservatives daily. I have sympathy for them and combat them effectively in the capacity that I am able to.

Nobody is immune to political propaganda. My partner went to a top school in her discipline and you should have seen how fucking retarded a lot of her classmates are. I hold even them in higher esteem than the average population.

Yeah, I only fully realised this with Russia. It's the first war that's streamed in high definition over social media. Everyone can look at this. And unlike climate change which requires at least some high school levels of physics, this is just so obvious. You see Russian tanks, you see destroyed buildings in Ukraine. And they just say "nah, there's no war. Vladimir Vladimirovich would never". But that's a rational level. Deep down I still find it hard to accept that people can fall for propaganda when they have access to the internet. That's not North Korea where literally the only source of information is the government.

That's terrible for democracy either way. Imagine in 50 years your state has always voted the same of two colours. And if the vote is 51-49, the 49% are just fucked. Completely.

It hasn't been anywhere near that close, though. In my entire adult life the closest the race has ever been was a 23.2 point difference. I'm in my 40s, so that's a lot of fucking elections, too. We need to find a system better than the electoral college. It's ridiculous how many people are contributing to the opposition party because of where they live.
