It is logistically impossible for weapons to be physically taken. Police have 1 million. Citizens have 400 million+ American citizens have more firearms than all the armies of the world combined, including all US armies. Seizure is impossible. Making them illegal, then imprisoning anyone caught with one is much more feasible.
