Biden and the Democrats should have negotiated with the Republicans over the pipeline to swing some votes for the infrastructure bill having more teeth. The spending bill barely covers reconstruction cost of our most dire waterways and bridges. Much of the money is blackholed to literal vaporware companies/industries.

Not likely, our refineries are at max capacity. You don't burn oil in your car you burn gas. You have to pay more because otherwise we will ship gas to countries that will pay more.

That is fundamentally wrong. Government, via regulation, permitting, taxes, and other laws, do in fact set minimum prices due to costs. Regulation is not free, and things like permits usually cost money. Minimum wage laws also affect price, though oil/gas is skilled labor so that does not apply here. Gas taxes are a big reason for why gas varies from state to state, fuel transport is only part of that. Corporations can then set prices after the fact for profit levels based on demand, but they tend to keep close to each other due to competition.

If government hampers supply, which Biden & Democrats 100% have fucking done, then the price will go up. And yes, corps see the writing on the wall: democrats want gas gone, so they are jacking prices up to help force everyone to EVs.
