It is your chance to quit porn. Take it.

How the fuck does one kill an SSD?

>My SSD just died and I have no backup
Btrfs claims another victim.

my condolences

>Use it past it's rated time
>Old firmware
Keeping it on a shelf for too long can also erase data

This would be a great time to start making an automated, incremental, encrypted backup using dedicated software that does it all for you.

Most backup services are like $50 a year. I can assure you'll have more than a $50 headache if I lose my data, so it's a no-brainer.

>keeping it on a shelf for too long
That was only a thing with early non-consumer grade SSDs.
>use it past its rated time
They don't have a rated time, they have rated write cycles and that's only for writing, not reading.
>old firmware
I guess that can fuck up things.

I bought a new HDD and it started showing bad sects after 4 months

That's okay, I'm sure your data had no value to society.

Use Time Machine on two NAS drives + backblaze or encrypted duplicati to any cloud storage provider

which is more than enough time to get prepared and backup. ssds just die

Oh no! How can I unsubscribe from this blog?

Enterprise SSDs also have time, since they use caps that go bad and/or go up in flames.

Firmware can for example cause the SSD to write to the same cells over and over, or cause heavy write-amp on writes that should go cleanly to empty space, or use a too tiny datatype to hold time and have the counter too precise, overflowing and causing all sorts of fun stuff

There is a [Fiters] option on the top corner of the site, in which you can insert your own rules for which blogs you're willing to see

Just do like me and have nothing. That way you won't be sad loosing anything, and it's cheap as fuck to buy harddrives because I need no space.
Okay I backup 400MB of documents, but other than I backup nothing and have nothing really.

Obviously not using technology means the'res no worries about it, same can be applied to almost everything;

hate doing dishes? Just eat out, eat with your hands. There are lots of people that like eating from plates though, and only need a solution, like a dishwasher.

>Obviously not using technology
But that's all I do.
I spend every waking hour with technology. IT sysadmin and RPA for work, and internet shit after work.
Doesn't mean I need to save anything.

consuming media is about as much using technology as is using a toothbrush is technology.

Sure hope you're not in charge of backups at your workplace

>Sure hope you're not in charge of backups at your workplace
You are aware it's possible to separate private life and work right? Hell I even said I do backup the 400MB of private data I actually care about.
Obviously there is backup at work, but that's not my data.
>as is using a toothbrush is technology.
I mean, yeah it is.
