Every other person is uploading 20 minutes 4k videos on Youtube every day

Honestly, they can't take it. They're going to have to curb it at some point. Will they delete old videos? Will they charge people to upload videos with good resolution (not SD)?

based durga sir

>he doesn't know that youtube has essentially unlimited storage and unlimited money thanks to google spying on you and selling your data for heaps of cash

you dont realize how much of a non-issue storage is for these companies

I wonder how much space it takes to archive all youtube videos.

Good morning sirs

>Will they delete old videos?
nobody is exactly sure. purges of spam accounts, terms of service breaches etc. you'd be looking at many tens of millions of videos deleted over a few years.
>They're going to have to curb it at some point.
only if the money stops. on the grand scale of things, while youtube rakes in tens of billions of dollars, youtubers are getting amounts of cash that would be like getting breadcrumbs.. maybe less.. grains of sand.
>Will they charge people to upload videos with good resolution (not SD)?
i could see that happening. they've already tested the waters to see if people would PAY to use youtube to watch exclusive content and other unwatchable trash, so charging people to upload higher quality videos, extra functions etc.etc I could see that happening.

that is why they are invested in AV1.
Also I ironically upload in 4K for a higher bitrate.

>Also I ironically upload in 4K for a higher bitrate.
nice work, user. youtube's codecs absolutely butcher HD or less something terrible.

Yeah I used to do 1440p but now I just do full 4K. Fuck em.
Also bettee scaling as 1080p divides into 4K perfectly.
Best of all I would make them no money with my 100 views.

Many years ago Google bought Akamai which was the first CDN and caching service. Storage isn't even expensive - even ss storage isn't expensive. Also they use high compression on their videos which makes the quality kinda low.

At some point they are going to do a cull. Anything, say, from before 2012 that still has less than 10000 views by the end of this year. Even with the low size, that's a ton of shit that will fly below the radar. They were able to kill off old unlisted videos a while back without protest.

I don't think they will remove them but just compress them heavily with AV1. Why delete potential videos for 5-50mb of space?

>Yeah I used to do 1440p but now I just do full 4K. Fuck em.

fuck'em indeed. i think 4k videos on there look really good. even on a hd display they look so much nicer than their hd encodes.
>Best of all I would make them no money with my 100 views
that's the spirit!

>Also they use high compression on their videos which makes the quality kinda low.
Google stores the original and an encoded version for every resolution. So they're not saving storage space, they're multiplying how much a video uses.

>kill off old unlisted videos
QRD

They forced all unlisted videos to become private.
It was "under" people using the service as a free hosting site, but also a lot of pedos etc. use unlisted.

I am hoping that happens. Too many """"creators"""" use high production value and high resolution as a substitute for actual substance. Maybe if videos return to potato quality they'll have no choice but to start saying and/or doing interesting things.

remember google video? web.archive.org/web/20070630103537/http://video.google.com/

Streaming videos online higher than 1080p is fucking useless. UltraHD is a fucking scam and the sooner it dies, the better off we are. Learn how fucking proper viewing distances work and how you absolutely, 100% cannot tell any goddamn difference at a proper viewing distance.
>LOL I CAN
You're a fucking liar trying to justify the insane amount of money you spent on hardware greedy companies brainwashed you into buying.

bros how much money do people who design and maintain absolutely massive data storage things like YouTube make? I don't know the terminology I'm looking for here.

they store the unpopular ones in a vault in antarctica and get carrier pigeons to fly them back to the main server when somebody accidentally clicks the play button on them
