i'm currently reading "14 Great Detective Stories" published in 1928. it's got stories by Edgar Allen Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle and the like. it's bretty good. i think i'll read Chandler next
I’ve been meaning to get into poetry, just to broaden my horizons. Edgar a good place to start or should I focus on someone else??
Image and Symbol by Eliades
quantum electrodynamics and general relativity textbooks
takes time to get through them as not so smrt
sure, i recall Annabell Lee being good, he has more than just poetry, Poe inspired Doyle
I just finished The Hobbit a few days ago. It was technically a re-read, but it had been almost 20 years since I last read it so it felt new again.
Before that, I participated in the Don Quixote read-along on /lit/. It was nice to finally read the novel that so many people consider to be a classic.
don quixote is amazing on so many levels. i hope it never gets fagged into a single film as its impossible to convey his retardation with modern niggotry
< don quixote
Literally intimidated to read that book because of its length ngl. Is it worth it??
is there a suggested translation, or are they pretty similar?
English fag here, I like the translation by Edith Grossman, maybe 10-15 years ago
reading in spanish will always be best, but me spanish is crappy
senor, as long as you can deal with a random as fuck intermission like in moby dickles, it is worth it
thanks user, will look
will it drive me mad, or i need to be a spaniard?
its totally readable in english.
as with any translation i feel something will be lost
just think of the bible and all the nonsense it has been through. At least Quixote only had a single language barrier
>as with any translation i feel something will be lost
this is what i'm concerned about, i want to get a good translation, something that hasn't been fucked with.
if you haven't read it, give Catch 22 a go, the movie is good too. the original with Alan Arkin, i haven't seen the remake
>Catch 22
fantastic read
made me stop giving a shit about most things though
you don't need to stop giving a shit, just don't take things as serious in life.
have you read King Rat by James Clavell?
>King Rat by James Clavell
no, what era is thats?
The Ice Howl
published in 1962 and set in a japanese POW camp in singapore
en.wikipedia.org
it was also made into a very good movie
Catch 22 is absolutely required reading
also Heart of Darkness by Conrad
Don't they teach that in high school anymore? I had to read it. Didn't hate it, but it wasn't as impactful as if I had read it without dumbass Jimmy stuttering his way through passages and shit
