The CO2 levels have been higher in the past. A LOT higher, actually. In fact, for most of the history of the earth they were higher than they are today. Sure, today's levels may be the highest in human history but that's only the last 20 million years or so. In the Carboniferous Era they were 5x what they are today and that ended with an ice age. It's NOT the CO2, it's the machines themselves.
When you go to work (or school, or whatever) tomorrow, look around you on the road. Every one of those cars you see has an engine running just below 200°F. Think about how many there are, how many you see just on your short drive to work, and think about how many there actually are in the world, all maintaining a temperature of 200°F by way of a cooling system that dumps heat out into the air. Speaking of cooling systems, think about your air conditioner and the fact that no machine on earth is 100% efficient. Every BTU removed from a home, office, store, or wherever by an air conditioner of heat pump was accomplished by generating *more* than one BTU of heat. Literally every machine on earth from the largest nuclear power plant (those just use the heat of the reactor to boil water if you didn't know) all the way down to your iphone charger all produce waste heat.
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
Now while the CO2 levels in prehistoric times have been higher than the levels today, the one thing that's never existed before the late 1800's (the period the planeteers always point to when talking about climate change and CO2) is the machines of the industrial revolution.
But there's money to be made by convincing people to buy electric cars. There's no money to be made by advocating for the Luddites. That's why you'll only ever hear about CO2. But even if every car in the world was replaced with an EV (there's not enough lithium in the world to do this, btw) the second law of themodynamics is going to keep fucking us.
