Every house should have one, or several. They are so useful, you can quickly get a temperature of anything and once you have that possibility, you'll constantly find the need for it.
Outside temp, room temp, is your fridge working properly, is your frying pan hot enough to put down the meat, are there any spots on your walls or roof that needs better insulation, etc. etc.

maybe the mechanical pencils like god damn, these things are just genius, I had sk-sharbo+1 zebra for since I was in middle school and it still works, it gives a consistent line thickness and its nice in the hand compared to one of those shitty ass pencils
