Personally I use greenshot, I have it set up to save a screenshot directly when I hit print screen and screenshot region when I hit shift+prtsc
I like the magnifier it has for capturing a region, makes it easy to get the exact pixel you want

The built in Nvidia thing works for me in games I don't see much reason to use anything else I'm not doing anything special or crazy to my screenshots. For desktop screenshots I just use windows shift s or whatever
