Thoughts on this laptop

Chuwi CoreBook

16GB RAM,
3:2 Aspect Ratio, 2k Display,
Intel Core i5-8259U, 512 GB SSD

for $500

Seems like a really good deal -- can't find any other midrange laptop with comparable display & 16GB RAM in that price point

Anyone know if Chuwi stuff is reliable -- all things considered?

literally never heard of it

why not get a mbp14 instead
i got one for $2500 and it works great

I really don't need a laptop for that much, but a nice display is very important to me for reading books & texts -- it's mainly for school

So anything >$750 is way more than I'd want to spend, and I'm just trying to avoid the shitter displays found in the typical budget laptop touted around here

going to spend more on electricity compared to just buying a better laptop

It'd mostly be getting charged at school, so not too worried. Do you just mean the battery is shit? I honestly don't know what else I could get without going for a Mac

I bet the pixel response times are complete garbage.

Considering this is 8gen CPU, and Microsoft switching back to the frequent new Windows version releases, it is likely not supported for Windows 12. A 11Gen/12Gen is much safer

>running linux
Don't kid yourself; you are using it for school

no
i dont trust these chink companies
theres a chance that shit would die 2 weeks

Fucking shills man, did you even bother reading the post? Are you seriously going to suggest a $2500 computer to someone looking at a $500 one?

Chink shit cheaps out on the little details and the final polish. If you can live with wasting 30-40 hours of your life getting shit to work you'll be fine. If you really want a nice laptop though go for a name brand but avoid Dell and HP. Lenovo is botnet but tends to be the best bang for buck compared to other major brands.

If you really wanna save money and get something nice try to find something 1-2 generations old that's manufacturer refurbed. That will come with a full warranty.

no

Build quality is absolute shit.
I tried one at a shop while i was looking for a laptop and it had the worst keyboard i've ever used

It's the cheapest and chinkiest chinkshit, what do you expect?

read reviews on aliexpress instead of asking here where you won't get single coherent answer

Chuwi is mid range, low tier chink stuff is like pic related, $100 generic laptops which still work biggest issue being lack of cooling and not much ram.

Well if you recommend OP a burger, he will definitely buy 5 since one isn't enough to keep him full. Hence that recommendation is definitely valid for OP or anyone posting here in general.

Bad advice. If a laptop is meant for consumers, there's literally no way it's nice (unless it's a MacBook). That leaves only the business laptops on the table but Asus/Acer/Fujitsu have a rather limited portfolio and availability of such products, and even then a lot of them are geared towards SMBs which are subpar too. Sure you can still avoid Dell/HP by getting a Panasonic Toughbook but you can't really bring it around without major inconveniences.

>8th gen intel
>not even a good one
>5 generations behind
>no gpu
nah

if you don't need the 3:2 display you can get better for $500 the newest consumer stuff with ryzen will be much faster than that i5. I would look up how easy it is to aquire a replacement battery thats always been the biggest problem with laptops for after ~6 years they either don't exist or cost +100$

>better for $500
