I start my wagie job in a couple of hours
My first day....
good luck friend. Try not to look at the clock for the first couple of hours so when you do you feel like there's good progress.
Thanks, it's my first job and i'm a little nervous
Nothing to be nervous about other than the social contact. Just ask if something isnt clear to you, like seriously, the worst you can do is only understand half of what you were told and then being too scared to ask again, causing problems.
Ask questions, be curious, do not look at the time and keep yourself busy on something.
Social interaction is important, but the first day should be more about learning about wtf it is youre supposed to do
Here's a tip always remember that the guys above you are paid more for less work and their favourite hobby is to laugh at you while they golf.
Get to work, Satan
You might mess up a lot, it's okay. If they yell, just pretend they didn't yell. If someone gets mad all the time, just expect them mad tomorrow. Also if a pain last longer than 5 hours, you might wanna say so. Had to stop working at a new job forever cause the it was red all over my body...
This
But you can also laugh back at them because their actual skills are pathetic.
I work in a small company and my main colleague was sick. The boss had to jump in and he caused more trouble than it was worth.
These people think they are intellectuals, but I dont consider somebody a real intellectual unless they can also put their own hands to some use.
Alot of bourgeois and capitalists are like this. They probably know how to play tennis, but most of them cant even fix their own toilet.
Make sure to stay hydrated as always and breathe easy. Also bump, this is a good thread.
Me too broham :( I had ONE week off between jobs and that was the first vacation I had in over two years. I barely slept last knowing it's over and in less than an hr I'll be at some orientation with a group of mouth breathing nurses aides even though I'm a fuckin salary paid director... I used to be a fuckin rock star...
it'll be ok fren
fuck a job, if it sucks you can always quit
Dont lie to the kid... Any of us that have been in the system long enough know the reality...
i am proud of you fren, give them your best!
You'll be fine just pay attention, also nice gets
Amazon hires Area Managers fresh out of university. Basically, unsure and insecure college kids with mediocre Bachelor's degrees are lured into the job by recruiters and like 6 months later they are managing like 50-100 employees. some of whom have been there for 3-5 years.
But yeah, when I slaved there, I had to show a 23 y/o AM how to use a tape gun.
The state of modern life. When I first joined the military as a part of tech training I had to take a class on how to use basic hand tools. Some people were clueless. Everyone's gotta learn somewhere, I suppose.
Public education doesn't teach people skills, only knowledge. Teaching a person a skill generally requires some kind of one-on-one interaction. It's difficult to teach a group of people a skill.
Public education should teach some skills though. Like mandatory classes for cooking, cleaning, home repair. Nothing complex or over a year's with of effort. I mean, would it be useful to have a kid outta high school that can preform a few simple repairs around the house, do a simple tax return, etc. Kids get fucked because they don't get that little extra life skills class. At least that's this old fart's opinion.
Obviously people should learn these things, but that just kind of proves that public schools aren't actually there to educate anyone.
A funding issue? A political issue? What do you think it is that prevents this from being a thing?
Probably just the fact that nobody's really actually in charge of anything and most institutions are just running on auto-pilot. The whole system is fucked and needs to be redone but that will never happen because the people reliant on the system will never allow it to be dismantled so that it can be improved.
