How much defrag is too much?
Is HDD manteniance a meme?

what the fuck are you doing? windows built in defrag is good enough.

Just defrag your shit every few months or so
Don't keep doing it like you're cleaning your house every weekend
Shut up

>Shut up
holy shit, you just got blown the fuck out. that's your response? shut up? yikes pal

>Shut up
LMAO. Blow your brains out, bitchboy.

Ideally you want no fragmentation, as any seek operation to the far physical location takes enormous amount of time, compared to RAM access.
w*ndows considered harmful

>How much defrag is too much?
when you obsess over defragging your browser's cache folders. If you are concerned about fragmentation and you cant stop writing new shit into your drive, just do it once a month, is no big deal.

All defragmenters died with Vista when MS has cut a low-level access to a file system. Since then, all defraggers are wrappers for MS defrag and that is done automatically every week by default. So just leave it as is.

>defragging
Gentoo doesn't have this problem.

you should be using an ssd by now and it only does t.r.i.m
once a week is good

>defrag
lmao
it's not 2000 anymore gramps

This, and by default it defrags once a week that's enough
Could you explain why isn't the built-in one enough? Because it is.

defrag your ssd every day goyim

yeah, and it was so disastrous that defrag won't help you

what defragging tool to use? Piriform's Defraggler?

>nvme reduces disk latency 10x
>windows 10 increases overhead 5x
Amazing precision

See

T techie for 25 years here

Even today i get laptops with hhds that run like shit, whwn the customer refuses ssd upgrade, i format and benchmark drive, usually low reads writes. Under 40mbs.
I put these drives tru dr revitalize, write and read with sector refresh on anything less than 20ms reaponse.
90% of time after a ton of refreshed sectors the drives bench and perform faster 100 120 mbs. The others. Dont and or are too damaged to fix

>customer refuses ssd upgrade
is it the price?

>refuses ssd upgrade
Going from a slow hard drive to an ssd is such a great upgrade. Sad these people continue their own suffering.

>buy 240gb ssd to replace 500gb hdd at 15%~ish usage
>need to shrink before clone, need to defrag before shrink
>defrag with windows, can shrink partition to ~300gb
>defrag with defraggler, can shrink partition to ~50gb
so which one is it

Yeah, even when i offer a 20$ 1 year warranty 240gb quaroni brand drive

Just use Casper 11 cloner
Expired trial even resizes, shrinks enlarges, does verified data copy, sata to nvme or viceversa (if its already uefi) it does sector partition aligment automatically
It just werks

SSDs have
>limited lifespan
>limited space
>considerably worse MB/$ ratio
for a device that only benefits poorly optimized modern AAA games, that's too much to sacrifice
