Why is modern technology so fake and gay? Computers are just one chip that does everything now. There's no more physical media. You can't buy software anymore, only subscribe to it. Everything is a web app running in "the cloud". Even things that need to run locally like emulators are running in the fucking web browser now. We've added a million layers of api complexity on top of the hardware, and for what? Only to bog things down and make all software into bland an homogenized apps, so even the most basic thing like a chat app is forced to run on top of hundred of megabytes of chromium browser code that uses up gigabytes of ram for no discernible reason. I grew up in the 90s and computing today is unrecognizable from what it was then. It feels like the personal computer is dead and something entirely different and more retarded replaced it.

>Why is modern technology so fake and gay?
it's made in china

>Why is modern technology so fake and gay?
"Sustainability"
the destruction of localized computer manufacture
women invading computer companies

there are many reasons, fedboi

because it allows retards to "use" computers
the problem with popularity is that it incentivizes catering to the lowest common denominator
it also allows companies to "protect" your data in the same way a mafia boss "protects" a mall

To put it simply, people still dont understand files. And they see absolutely nothing wrong with that

Everything is made by tech geekers. Nobody who understands anything is allowed to make anything better because everything has to be backwards compatible with garbage made by tech geekers like C and C++. The only thing you can do is put something else on top, so the pile of garbage keeps getting bigger.

Files have nothing to do with how computers work. You're brain dead.

Because (((they))) view you as cattle
Subscribe = rent and they are the digital landlords. Why let you own something when they can make you constantly in debt. Why let you repair something when they can just make you buy a new one. Why let you have physical media that you can keep forever or even (heaven forbid) RESELL!

It's all so tiresome.

>files have nothing to do with how computers work

all part of globohomo

Theres too big a market for babysitting features. It creates a feedback loop of reinforcement of ignorance. "i dont have to learn haha! see? they do it for me!"

((they)) gave up all hope on us when consumerism became a thing

You're on the cusp of making a good point, but nobody is going to build generational wealth with hoarding old electronics and their video game collections.

wtf is that thing

It's not really boomer. There's a ton of free shit that's really good.

Back in the day you had to buy visual basic on a cd to program your PC. Let that sink in.

You can do whatever you want user. Use any software you want, or no software at all, its your choice

>Why is modern technology so fake and gay?
Because people nowadays are fake and gay.

Back in the day QBASIC was free and came installed with DOS on every single computer faggot.

You're either a boomer or a contrarian looking at the past through rosy retrospection.

>Computers are just one chip that does everything now.
And how is that a bad thing? The iPhone was so revolutionary because it could easily replace a dumb cell phone, an MP3 player, and had an actually usable web browser. What the fuck is the point of having multiple chips/devices when one can do the job so much more efficiently?
>There's no more physical media
And that's a good thing. Yeah, while it sucks that you technically can't "own" anything anymore because of things like streaming, piracy always exists.
>You can't buy software anymore, only subscribe to it.
Yeah I agree this sucks ass. It's unfortunate just how much more profitable this is compared to other business models.
> Everything is a web app running in "the cloud".
Yeah because the cloud is scalable. You want the dumbass megaconglomerates of the past having a complete oligopoly on the internet because no small businesses can get the start up cost for equipment?
>browsers web apps blah blah blah
Browsers have standards. Systems don't. You want the Windows monopoly of the past again? Linux is only usable now because web apps exist or else developers would just abandon it and users would flee to a working operating system with working programs. See: youtu.be/Pzl1B7nB9Kc?t=72. You have better shit to do with your time than wasting your time trying to support 25 different weird ass system configurations which your users use.

A pajeet with a $300 Chromebook can create a quality program and get hired by FAANG. In the 90s and especially even before you had to spend thousands in today's dollars to get even the most basic machine, and dumb fucks here are still nostalgic for that when they complain about "cRaPpLe OvErPrIcEd."

Um. No. A computer is a device that computes. If i buy one, i should be able to compute things that are mine, just like any other property. If the software on your AWS server is your property, then a private party should be able to own their own software as well. Do you not see how cloud data control creates vendor lock-in and this exact corporate monopoly youre bashing on? The early days of computing were all about sharing, all the standards are built around this. Microsoft started proprietary software and vendor lock-in. This is why "hobby" OS developers bash on windows and strive to make a windows replacement. Bill gates destroyed computing.

Furthermore, the IBM 360 is the device that pioneered exbandability and modularization. This reduced the cost of entry for computers and allowed cost effective upgrades as needed.

Building a home server is like buying a mailbox for your house. We dont need corporate overlords like mr. Bezos in charge of our mailbox

Furthermore, html documents are just that: documents. Its neat how you can add js to add interactivity, but its not software engineering. By necessity you need bloat to run scritping languages of any kind.

Some jobs and some businesses require apps for certain services and its a disturbing trend

Yeah, once a government regulatory requirement is tied to a particular company or their SaaS software product, you're not getting away from proprietary software.
God help you if your company's books aren't in excel or quickbooks.

>miniaturization is the fault of women
You have to go back.

I grew up in 2000s and computing today is unrecognizable from what it was then too.
