I blame Boomer helicopter parenting. When I grew up in the 70s, boys were expected to learn how to fight. There wasn't a week that went by that I didn't a fat lip or a black eye or a broken nose. We learned lessons like being polite unless we wanted a mouthful of knuckles and that if you give in to bullies, you'll get it twice as bad.
Starting with Millennials, Boomers decided kids needed to be protected from the repercussions of their actions. They weren't allowed to learn lessons about respecting boundaries -- and how to enforce their own boundaries by force with their hands. We're raising generations of cowards who can't fight, are afraid of everything, and reach for a gun because it's the only way they can project force to assuage their feelings of weakness.
