when a psychologist is treating someone with anorexia (which is a form of body dysphoria) they try to have that person accept themselves for what they are and stop them from wanting to constantly lose weight. because they'll die if they starve themselves too much
when a psychologist is treating a trans person (which is also body dysphoria) they help them look more like a woman.
why are trans people treated differently? helping trans people mutilate themselves is the same as encouraging anorexic people to starve themselves. even if you don't see transitioning as mutilation it's still very expensive, risky, and an increased risk of suicide.
just like an anorexic person, they'll never be happy with themselves. they'll always want to look more feminine and the day they realize that all their work was for nothing and they're not looking any more feminine, they kill themselves.
When a psychologist is treating someone with anorexia (which is a form of body dysphoria) they try to have that person...
I don't blame the trans
Blame the system, the civilization per say.
Maybe the psychological community with all their PhDs knows better than we do.
very true. i see them as people who need help. and they're getting what they think is "help" but it isnt really working in the long term
Psychology especially with all the random drugs these days is the biggest bullshit out there
It's kind of crazy how they just go fuck it lets try this SSRI and if that doesnt work lets dabble in this other one who knows
i would love to pay for a therapist or something so i could just have a discussion about this with someone who should have more knowledge on the topic then me.
i've heard of therapist telling people that they should consider not transitioning since their dysphoria probably wont ever go away.
i am worried that the therapist's political beliefs are changing what type of treatment they give trans people
Body dysphoria and gender dysphoria are different things, not all trans people have body dysphoria. Transitioning is not equivalent to starving yourself, either, just as plastic surgery is different from shooting yourself in the head.
one could even say, Society
That’s a funny way to trick yourself into getting the therapy you obviously need
We live in a society
Yes
well what's the difference when the plastic surgery causes you to shoot yourself in the head. and what's the difference between gender dysphoria and body dysphoria?
>its the society!
just a little further user
A person with body dysphoria may hate a specific aspect of their body but they don't necessarily believe they were born the wrong gender. A person with gender dysphoria believes they're not the right gender, but that doesn't necessarily mean they hate their body or any specific aspect of their body. While current studies do find higher rates of suicidality among trans folks who have undergone any type of treatment, those studies are comparing their suicide rates against that of the general population. I've not been able to find any studies that measure the rate of suicidality between trans folks who have gotten treatment vs trans folks who don't seek treatment, but it's not particularly surprising trans folks kill themselves more often than the general population. It's like being surprised that depressed people kill themselves more often than not depressed people.
>they believe they were born the wrong gender
well they weren't, it's all in their head. i'd say the distinction doesn't really matter here but i'll use the right terminology from now on
I respect how people with anorexia identify themselves. If they think they need to loose weight that's completely acceptable and they shouldn't be treated like they have a problem
How do you know they weren't born the wrong gender? Nature isn't perfect, humans come out all sorts of fucked all the time. Just because it's not as obvious as a third leg or having penis + vagina doesn't make it any less real. There are many disorder which are a result of impaired brain regions, such as ADHD where certain regions of the ADHD brain are smaller than they should be. There's no way for you to know that trans people don't have an unfixable brain abnormality. You have even less knowledge about whether transitioning increases the risk of suicide. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough research yet around the effects of transitioning. Ignoring all of that, though, I still don't see why it should matter to me what trans people do with their bodies. Worry about yourself.
do they not hate their penis or their manly features? how do they not hate their body?
so you're saying that evrything about them is manly by birth but by some genetic miracle (or curse) they were born with a female brain? well i know this isn't true because there are hormones produced in the brain and they simply do not have female hormones.
also female brains are on average smaller (but more efficient) than male brains
>oh no my genes made an oopsie and accidentally gave me a Y chromosome and i somehow know they fucked up while making me so now i have to fix it
meant to reply to this but that works too i guess
