In the 1860's, the South got the Confederacy off the ground (barely) because it was a politically homogeneous enough region on a big enough scale to attempt using all of the mechanisms of a state that you would need to start a war. They also had very specific end goals and saw it as existential.
Nothing even remotely like that exists in present-day America. The federal government took great pains during Reconstruction (and the decades after) to make all individual states more dependent, and all of the fringe groups that want a war or a coup don't have anywhere near the critical mass needed to utilize the infrastructure required to actually start an honest-to-goodness Civil War. The closest you'd see is some goofy militia outfit somewhere getting curb-stomped Waco-style if they suddenly felt ballsy.
