How old are you in terms of technology?

All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't experience the internet before Mozilla Firefox existed.

>I'm glad I didn't experience the internet before Mozilla Firefox existed.
it was comfy

>All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't experience the internet before Mozilla Firefox existed.
It really wasn't that bad.

youtube's video player was a flash program. just like everything else important. since javascript was (is) pure trash and ActiveX was IE only

>All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't experience the internet before Mozilla Firefox existed.
overreacting desu, but yep internet explorer 6 was shit.

My first PC that had internet access ran on a Gateway PC with a 56k dial up modem and a AOL install disk

First PC was a 66mhz Compaq pressairo with a 33.6k modem and Netscape navigator 2.0 on windows 3.1

well my first computer was a gift from an aunt, I barely remember the specs besides the OS being Windows 98 and a 4Gb HDD, I was very little, like maybe 7 years old? I used floppy disks to backup and share files with my dad, one day he bought a DVD player+burner and it seemed like the most advanced thing in the world

when I was like 8 or 9 I already had a better computer, it was a Compaq with Pentium 4 and Windows 2000 (later upgraded to XP), I also connected to the internet for the first time via dial up and well, I've been here since then and I kinda regret it, specially when I used to browse boards like Any Forums, now I only browse Any Forums, Any Forums and /ck/

"Web 1.0" was nice, it was a wonder being able to do my homework with shit like Encarta and the internet instead of going to the library like the other kids
I remember when IRC was THE messaging software everyone used, I remember early forum communities and how shit they were, nowadays we have social networks and discord servers so it never really got better imo, private group chats with IRL friends and family are the only way to go for me now

as for the software I used during those times:

Encarta was nice before I got internet at home
IE was shit and I remember how much better my internet browsing was after installing Firefox
Emulators like Project 64 and Visual Boy were amazing and I played so many games with them, even though I already had a gameboy
Winamp and VLC were nice, I listened to so many 2000's music and watched lots of music videos with them, I specially remember songs like Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz, I replayed that music video so many times

my bumfuck nowhere town had no internet access and I had to visit relatives who lived in the city to download a file, split it into multiple 1,44MB parts and write it to multiple floppy disks

I'm DOS on legs.

Why though? You will never know the feeling when you discover this new browser called Firefox that's much better than IE.

>Pentium 4
>slow HDDs for the OS
>low end GPUs literally would not run anything because muh shaders were missing
>eternal Windows XP+IE6 days
still gives me PTSD

I played flash games in the Cartoon Network site in the early 2000s.

There was a time when you couldn't alt tab your video games or do any multitasking because one of several things will happen:

>Your game crashes because it couldn't handle the Fullscreen change
>Your computer crashes because you run out of RAM
>Your computer becomes so unresponsively slow that you feel like it crashed but it hasnt because the HDD led is still ticking
>Your computer explodes because capacitor plague

I used DOS 3.3
*Apple* DOS 3.3

I remember my first house PC was some expensive office shit with windows vista... That was peak time of getting fun on the internet, nostalgia.

Same, but lego site.

Let me put it to you this way, this is the year I was born:

These posts make me feel old as fuck.
I have to agree though, the Windows XP and Windows Vista eras were the comfiest. I really missed out on a lot by now growing up speaking English, that is my greatest regret.

I remember win2k but barely. xp was the first os I was very familiar with.

My formative years of using a PC were on Windows XP, I may not have used it for as long as W7, but the memories are burned into my soul like nothing else. I also remember the numerous controversial Youtube layout changes back-to-back. I get a sickly feeling when I hear the PS3 is 15 years old.

When I was really little I got to play on my dad's windows 95 gateway computer. 24 games, Rollercoaster Tycoon, kid pix, and this game where ants crawl all over your desktop and you have a bunch of weapons to kill them and "break" the screen.
But most of my childhood computer usage was on the windows xp dell he upgraded to. 256 megs of ram baby! Our techie friend told us about Firefox, I'm pretty sure we just used internet explorer back then. I used to frequent vgmusic.com as a kid because back then I had to show my parents any website I wanted to be allowed to visit and they'd have to vet it. Honestly that's something parents should get back to

MSDOS, Windows 95. Spent a lot of time in 98 and 2000. AMA.

The first PC game I ever played was Red Alert 2 on my dad's work computer, it was a burned copy since the CD was plain and the name Red Alert 2 was written on it with a marker.
A few years later my parents bought a PC for me and my sister and it came with Warcraft 3 and a demo version of Soldier of Fortune 2.

My earliest computer memories were quitting out of Windows 3.1 to play games on DOS

first pc was a 386. first browser was netscape navigator. a simpler, more elegant time.

CartoonNetworkHQ.net was the first website I ever visited on the internet. It was in 2003 in the Internet cafe next to my grandmother’s apartment. I was 9 years old. Had a PC two years prior to that but no internet. I had watched that website get advertised so much on the channel and was craving the ability to visit it so much… a guy with the nickname (Shtuka) showed me hardcore porn minutes after that… rest is (nasty) history…

I’m old enough to remember the last good apple computer. The apple II. Apple really went to shit with the Macintosh. The graphical UI was fucking slow. And apple was always so expensive and non upgradeable. I had a compaq pc compatible that I kept alive for five years with minor and cheap upgrades. My compaq went from dos to windows 2. My dads Mac stagnated for years. I had color UI before apple.

I remember playing doom on 9600 baud rate dial up.

pop up ads were 120% pure cancer back in the day
i mean pop up ads
