Honestly she's amazing and I love her but every single time there's some kind of anti-black shooting she shuts down and I have to deal with 5 days of her being a downer about everything, assuming she talks to me at all. She changes the way she responds to me: her energetic responses become the opposite and it's just draining. It gets to the point where it's so draining that every urge I have is "break up with her". But when it stops things are good. Am I just not meant to be with her? We live together and contact is usually minimal when this happens.
She bounces back eventually, and this is the ONLY problem I have with our relationship (we're both a decade into adulthood and have been together for 5 years). I'd ideally like to be there for her but it's like she doesn't want me to.
OP here, I forgot to mention, one of the only times we've ever gotten into any kind of fight was in 2020 when I heard about the looting at Target and such, but before I knew that it was relevant George Floyd's death. She got really, really upset that I focused on the looting and not the big picture, almost refusing to realize I had no idea they were together. I just heard a bunch of people stole from Targets and shit and it shocked me

Well, I'm generally against racemixing, but objectively speaking she might have some underlying trauma that she never properly dealt with, ideally with a psychologist. Some shit from childhood, or maybe even transgenerational. So these events trigger that or whatever. Again, I don't support your relationship, but you can try this way.
