It plays music(sometimes).

It's not the official KrashDE's music player.

No. I use mpv.

It... Um... It starts up when you tell it to? When it feels like it, anyway

it doesn't have a confusing volume control

I sincerely believe that in-app volume control is counter-intuitive and actively harmful from my experience as a user.

When there is volume control in the app in front of you, it is too easy to reach out and use it.

However, once I select some music to play, I usually switch to other activities. At that moment, I would not have the Music application in front of me, so, wanting to change the volume, I would use my keyboard media keys or reach the device volume control slider, which is available from the top panel of the GNOME Shell. So, for example, if I dial down the music player but then decide that I want the volume up and dial it up for the whole device, I would eventually end up shocked by a system notification or some other sound at a volume too high than expected. It is even worse when using a Bluetooth headset. When you are away from your computer, e.g. doing housework, you do not have any visual feedback when changing the volume level with the volume buttons on the headset. So, it is even easier to set the notifications volume too high when you previously dialled down the music player.

A quality music library should not require you to fiddle with controls instead of listening. It is a reasonable expectation.

If I want to mix the sound inputs, I use the volume controls in the Settings application. It is a few keystrokes away: hit Super/Meta, then start typing for "volume" and hit Enter. For example, I can dial down some nature recordings playing in the Web browser, which has no volume controls otherwise, dial the music player even lower, and set a game output lower than a podcast. This way, I am not restricted to what applications I can mix. Furthermore, I am not required to switch between them and hunt for the volume settings in their graphical interfaces. And finally, I have all applications and system volumes at a glance to judge by a complete picture whether my volume setup is what I want.

If I am on a call, I want the music player paused, not muted. There is no point in it playing when I am not listening to it. That is especially true when listening to a new album sequentially without missing anything.

If you don't like Settings for some reason, there is a Shell extension which adds per-application volume controls to the drop-down of the top panel: Volume Mixer by Alex Hofbauer. And there is also Application Volume Mixer by mymindstorm. Both are available from the GNOME extensions site.

Other music players, especially the cross-platform ones, cannot rely on the system to have some features conveniently implemented. They also need to accommodate more system-specific workflows. However, Music has the benefit of assuming the GNOME core components are present and is even obliged to do so for consistency and holistic experience. As a side note, a player that shows visual ads in its free version may find it more profitable to add features to give you fewer reasons for switching away from its interface.

Most soulless music player I've seen.

I just love these big UIs with only 2 options
Like why the fuck would you use this instead of just a CLI music player at this point? I'm surprised it shows a fucking thumbnail of the cover art. They must be really proud of that one.

I don't understand how people like these handle life.

It makes sure that all of your music is stored in the ~/Music directory.

this confuses and enrages the gnome user

Imagine someone coddled their entire life. Their behavior is neutered of all the difficult elements of raising a child, because their parents considered their existence as a nuisance, apart from the social status that having a child brings. Through Pavlovian training, all their misbehavior was cauterized. The end result is this fucking waste of flesh in a 3 piece suit. He had no chance to ever make it. God willing, he'll have a mid life crisis and wake up from his slumber.

I'm getting very confused AAAAAAAAAAAA
