Because Linux is the midwit option so they need to look down on the popular OS for cattle (windows) and the more niche OS (BSD variants). Also macOS is technically BSD so that helps with the hate.
Just shitting on other distros isn't enough. The need to call others pajeets and trannies is ever-growing.

But I contest it being useless for desktop usage on top of that, the BSDs all support everything needed to use it as a desktop, have pretty much all the same desktop software Linux does, support most desktop hardware you'll come across (with certain exceptions dependent on the BSD), etc. I use FreeBSD on my laptop, works fine, does everything I'd do on Linux. Hardly "useless"

Why do you need the Linuxulator? But yeah wifi drivers can be annoying, if the chipset isn't supported, but I use ethernet and most common laptop chipsets are supported.
It has all the software Linux has. It has drivers for most things you'll throw at it. Have you ever used it or do you say this just because other people who have never used it say that?

Android studio, for an example. Or any program not compiled for BSD. I know I can make a port, but it takes time. On linux, it's all just "one click".

Android studio just runs on the JVM doesn't it? I know the other IntelliJ IDEs run on FreeBSD, I don't think it'd be too much work to just run it natively not through the Linuxulator. But I do understand wanting the straight convenience.

BSD existed long before Linux. The 4.4BSD derivative systems we have today did not crop up just to provide a Unix-like that isn't Linux. You see Linux as the most important operating system and cast that view onto history to call everything else irrelevant alternatives that were trying to compete.
Though, a mission statement of "it's not Linux" is an appealing one to me to avoid the garbage Linux became.

Here's more of the BSD cope that we know and love. What they originally cropped up to do and what they actually do over the last 25 years is not the same thing. You understand this very well. You just don't want to admit it because it requires admitting that you lost. BSD is the same garbage as Linux. They're both absolutely horrible. Linux won by being slightly less horrible in the only way that actually matters (drivers) and that makes you furious. Stop masturbating over pointless shit like the internal architecture of the C library and stop holding it up like it means anything.
